Other FAQ.

Will I have a problem with the food and water? Probably not. If you drink bottled water and use average or above level restaurants.

Is Thailand safe for tourists? I will say it as safe as just about anywhere in the world and safer than most.

What is the political stability of Thailand? It is stable, but avoid the most southern provinces bordering Malaysia.

What kind of accommodation can I expect? You can expect the highest level from the The Regent - Chiang Mai to through to budget level accommodations the choice is yours!

What about travel cheques or ATM machines? You can use cheques and your credit or Debit card in all major destinations in Thailand Travellers cheques are easily cashed with your passport. The ATM will normally allow you a reasonable withdraw per day depending on your card type MasterCard normally allow a larger daily withdrawal than VISA, but normally also have a larger minimum fee, which make VISA better for small withdrawals. The fee is charged for cash withdrawals on your credit card.  But even with the fee it is often to your advantage to use your credit card instead of taking large amounts of cash. First of all it is safer. Credit cards can be replaced if lost. Secondly you get a better exchange rate which often more than compensate for the fee. Some smaller shops will charge you between 2-4 % for payment with credit cards to cover the bank charges, but larger shops and shopping centers will normally not charge you a fee.

I have to ask about the tour sex trade. Is it still going on? Yes it is, but it is less than before with the increasing economic stability in the region. It fortunately is not as big a problem in Thailand as it was generations ago.

So there is no night life left? Hardly. There is still a vibrant night life with restaurants, discos, bars and night clubs. The Thai people enjoy to party more than most other people. Thai's proudly say they work to live, while others live to work!
