Opened
in 1924 and less than one kilometer from the center of town, The Royal
Hua Hin Golf Course offers tempting Tee shots for the adventurous. Natural
jungle surroundings, as well as views over the Gulf of Thailand, make
this course a must for any golfer staying in or near Hua Hin.
This is one of Thailand's
gems. The royal associations go back over seventy years. The course is very
natural and is surrounded by beautiful scenery. Major renovations and improvements
in the 1980s have ensured that the course and its facilities remain on par
with the newer generation of clubs. It is also a course which affords players
glorious views of the Gulf of Thailand.
Those
who play here will never forget the experience, especially when they play
the par-three eighteenth, with the beautiful sight of a Thai temple forming
the panoramic background. The new clubhouse is situated alongside the charming
old Hua Hin railway station on the Bangkok-Singapore railway line, which contributes
to an aura of elegance of a bygone era in old Thailand.

The
rolling and undulating fairways of the golf course give Palm Hills a distinctive
identity which is different from all the other courses in the area. The 18
holes are arranged in two distinctive nines, separated by the beautiful clubhouse
and a rocky outcrop extending from the mountain range. The course runs from
east to
west,
with lakes at each end. The greens can be fast with some very tricky burrows.
While playing the second nine holes, players are rewarded with some breathtaking
views of the Gulf of Thailand.
80 meters above sea
level the rolling and gently undulating fairways provide Palm Hills with it’s
own individual identity. The only exception to the gentle terrain is on the
10th hole, where a semi-blind tee shot is encountered from the
side of an imposing limestone mountain. Water is also a hazard especially
on the 2nd, 8th, 11th and 14th
holes. "Toppers" beware!

Lake
View is another example of the quality of golf courses in and around Hua Hin.
The design of this championship course conveys a sense of adventure. Hidden
greens, mature palm trees and well defined fairways are on offer throughout
this course. This course also offers a test for courage and putting
expertise.
Adventure is the style
of this absorbing course. Greens are the well defined fairways provide the
necessary pointers for golfers to retain a sense of direction. Rolling fairways
and spectacular mounding around the greens can make some approach shots quite
tricky. The par-three fourteenth is one of the outstanding holes on the course
in that both tees and green are islands within a large lake, only accessible
by footbridges from the mainland. The
75-room hotel adjoining the clubhouse commands fine views over the golf courses
and mountains beyond.

The Majestic Creek Country
Club is yet another creation of Thailand's foremost golf architect, Dr. Sukitti
Klangvisai. Superb
golf holes in an exciting layout. The opening hole has a wealth of potential
problems for all levels of play, and decisions have to be made. An easy par
four for those of us who want to take the conventional route, or if you are
the adventurous golfer, then trying to cut the dog-leg corners will really
test your skill. The hazards of the 1st hole will never be far
away, and precedes a succession of exciting and equally demanding holes.
This Golf Course is one of the longest courses in Thailand, and
it also claims to have the longest hole in the Kingdom at 770 yards, which
becomes a par six! Dr. Sukitti, together with the Thai/American shaping team
have produced
a layout which needs to be played with imagination and skill.
Valleys in the nearby mountains supply
water to the maze of streams winding around the course, and the builders have
been careful to preserve them as natural hazards. A free shuttle bus service
runs from the Majestic Beach Resort Hotel continuously throughout the day.

This
Jack Nicklaus designed course , gained a reputation of being one of
the finest courses in Thailand, and is now established as a must while
golfing in Hua Hin or Cha-am. It maintains an enjoyable challenge
for golfers of all standards, starting with a par 4. The first hole is a
gentle 367 yards from the white tee, and on appearance looks to be quite
simple. The hole reveal the need for accuracy and the character of the
course becomes more intriguing, as length is also an important factor on
many of the following holes.
These
are mostly flank by a series of hillocks covered by a forest of young
trees, and the fairways thread their way through well-placed hazards
towards greens of the highest international standard. Hotel accommodations
are available. Host for the Thailand open in 2000.

Playing
here is a change from the longer championship courses of this area.
Fantastic sea views and cooling sea breezes are features
of this unique layout where accuracy and placement are more important than
length to score well. This course proves to be difficult, and even some of
the local professionals have trouble matching par here. Fast greens
that are not easily read, will put your putting skills to the ultimate test!
Never has a back 9 differed so much from the front 9.
Enjoy!
Designer Robert McFarland
has used one of the most interesting sites in Thailand to good effect. The
course is surrounded on three sides by forested hills. From the clubhouse,
panoramic sea views give the course a "link" atmosphere. The large variation
in elevation allows many sweeping holes. The eighteenth is a classical finishing
hole played from an elevated tee and commanding a tee shot of 200 yards carry
to reach the fairway. Accommodations are available nearby.

Sawang
offers an equal test for all classes of player. Blending in perfect
harmony with its surrounding countryside, Sawang compliments Petchaburi's
rolling hills. The resort also incorporates a big clubhouse, and recently
upgraded hotel. Sawang is located only about 50 minutes from Hua Hin
on the main highway North to Bangkok.
Four sets of Teeing
grounds make this course a fair test for all classes of players. The course
is set in a valley and blends harmoniously with the surrounding hills. Water
comes into play on twelve holes and accurate shot making is called for. The
seventeenth is one of six dog-leg holes and players have to contend with water
on the left flank and on the g reen.
The eighteenth is an excellent finishing hole, demanding an accurate tee shot
to avoid the water on both sides of the fairway. The second shot also has
to be "placed" to avoid hitting into the water on the right of the fairway.
There is a big clubhouse, hotel and condominiums, plus a sports center.
